within the framework of the Commemoration of Women’s Day

The team of facilitators of the Sugar Foundation -Fundazucar- received recognition for their struggle, courage, and contribution to society, within the framework of the Commemoration of International Women’s Day. The recognition was presented on March 6th by a Branch Chamber of Commerce of the House of Culture of Guatemala in Los Angeles, California.

This recognition reinforces the commitment of the entire Fundazucar team to promote development on the South of the country, especially Guatemalan women, as agents of change for the development and well-being of their families and their communities.

The ceremony was held at the facilities of the Art and Culture Center of the city of Mazatenango, Suchitepequez department of the South of Guatemala. The Suchitepequez Branch Chamber of Commerce gave awards to outstanding women of the department, for their contribution to society, constant struggle, effort, strength and for being an example of inspiration to other women to play a leading role in the construction of the society.

Empowering women with the Better Families program

Through Fundazucar, the Guatemalan Sugar Industry has promoted social programs focused on the areas of health, education, and municipal strengthening, aimed to women, youth, teachers, health workers, community leaders and municipal authorities.

The Better Families Program is an innovative model that promotes Food and Nutrition Security by fostering self-confidence, self-management, and leadership in women. The program places women as the catalyst for development of their families and communities. It also fosters behavioral change and empowerment, which makes a direct impact in the reduction of chronic child malnutrition by up to 7%.
